Administrative Assistant, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics


Location: Hickory, North Carolina 

The administrative assistant provides essential part-time administrative support for the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, assisting with the College's daily operations. This role acts as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, providing support to the academic programs within the College and their public-facing activities. While prior experience in higher education operations and event planning is beneficial, it is not required.

Essential Accountabilities

  • Provide administrative support to the College Dean, including managing the calendar, making travel arrangements, assisting with project activities, retrieving information, and generating reports.
  • Assist in overall office administration for the College.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics for College events and projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between the College and other University departments and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a professional and inclusive work environment.
  • Assist in overseeing facility operations.
  • Collaborate and Assist the Office of Academic Affairs as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the College Dean.

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma is required; a Bachelor's degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Prior experience directly related to the listed skills, duties, and responsibilities is preferred but optional.
  • Familiarity with a higher education setting is beneficial but optional.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is typically performed in a standard interior work environment.
  • The position offers physical comfort, with the individual having discretion regarding sitting, walking, standing, etc.
  • The work environment poses minimal exposure to physical risks.

Work Schedule

  • Four hours per day (at least 4 hours consecutive), Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Hours are flexible.
